Wayne Kruse’s column, “Anglers irked at lingcod plan” in the Thanksgiving edition of The Herald has a wealth of valuable information and contact sources. You and I can follow what is going on in the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and respond through regional meetings or e-mails accordingly.
The commission of the WDFW was established by the passage of referendum 45 in 1995 by 61 percent vote approval. Even though it was a sportsman sponsored referendum, the commission was comprised of a majority of people with commercial interest in mind. The commission has been more sympathetic toward the sportsman in the last couple of years and in doing so they were attacked by SB 5127 last session.
The proposed bill, under the guise of budget restraints, was co-chaired by Sen. Jacobsen of Seattle and Sen. Haugen of Camano Island to “effectively gut the commission of their power.” These two dictators should be remembered at election time for their arrogance in ignoring the voice and will of the people.
If you are one of the 1,000,000-plus fish and wildlife license and endorsement holders in the state of Washington, please let your voice be heard on the 120-plus proposed rule changes for the years 2010-2012 on the WDFW web site, and e-mail your legislators through their web sites when upcoming legislative session concerns occur.
