I have to laugh whenever anyone says the Keystone pipeline was “shut down.” It has been open and operating for years. It runs east across Canada and then south through the U.S.
What was cancelled was a bypass that would run almost completely under U.S. soil. It has already had leaks on our soil. Do we want more? It also carries the planet’s dirtiest fossil fuel, tar sands oil. It is more costly to refine; is a Canadian product; and has no bearing on the fuel costs in the U.S.
President Biden also didn’t cancel leases. He stopped new leases and the sale of leases and properties to foreign entities, pending review. Last November, he opened 80 million acres, for drilling, in the Gulf of Mexico. None of which has any bearing on the price of gas. OPEC is a cartel; they set the prices. No administration has any control over those prices.
