I was asked the other day who I’m going to vote for in the upcoming presidential election. I told them I was voting for Bill Gates. They were appalled that I was going to “give up my vote.” I told them that my reasoning was that Bill Gates is a true humanitarian along with his wife Melinda. They believe that children are the future of this nation and are an important commodity to this nation. The Gates believe in education and helping out people trying to succeed and help them get their education. Those are the true people in this world who are going to make a difference.
I was then asked why I wouldn’t vote for George W. Bush or Al Gore. I said that they appear to have all of their issues pointed towards the Baby Boom generation and older generations. They offer nothing to younger generations. It does my heart wonders, to know my parents may have the chance to vote for someone who will help their future, but what about my future and other people my age?
Violence is becoming more and more prevalent. I am 25 years old. I am scared to have children, and the thought of bringing them up in such a hateful world scares me. None of the youth violence issues have been addressed by any campaigns.
I realize I am not part of the majority, but there are a lot of young people who would like to see a president-elect, senator or someone reach out to teenagers, twenty and thirty year olds, with issues that impact us now.
George W. Bush and Al Gore would get a huge response if they would simply address young people’s issues, too.
