With increasing numbers of hungry people, food banks are struggling to meet the needs with new federal and state proposed cuts (‘It’s going to lead to more hungry people’: Cuts to SnoCo food banks,” The Herald, March 27).
Farmers are suffering as well, since the billion dollar cut to programs that let them sell local food products. And if the SNAP program gets cut it will be even worse. As good neighbors we can help, by donating, and by asking those who represent us in Congress to protect the SNAP program, and even increase it. And of course ask them to lobby the Department of Agriculture to restore the critical programs that have been cut. Our voices can help reverse the tragedy of hunger, locally and across the country.
