It seems like the odor of the Aaron Reardon scandal is finally wearing off after eight years and now we have Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers picking up the Reardon mantle. Sheriff Adam Fortney ran a campaign based on law and order (something his predecessor, Ty Trenary, seemed to forget about as sheriff) and won the election much to the chagrin of Somers who backed Trenary.
Then in a blatant attempt to give the voters of Snohomish County the finger, Somers appoints Ty Trenary to the bogus position of senior policy analyst with a salary of almost $150,000, a position clearly designed to undercut Sheriff Fortney’s ability to follow through on his law-and-order agenda. Apparently the $150,000 is going to have to come from other county service funds and, as Sheriff Fortney has pointed out, this could fund another much-needed deputy.
You can define “progressive” politicians any way you want but all you have to do is look to Seattle and King County’s “progressive” political leadership with its lawlessness, its “catch and release” of dangerous felons who hurt and kill innocent people, their willingness to let one of the most beautiful cities in the world become one of the biggest dump sites in the world, their disdain for businesses which is turning Seattle into a ghost town and their tax and spend policies.
Do we really want this for Snohomish County? Look around at the lack of honesty and integrity in our politicians, locally and nationally, and maybe vote differently next time?
