By Claire Michal / Herald Forum
I am currently a junior at Marysville Getchell High School and have attended Marysville schools for all of my education. I am proud that I am a direct product of this community and our schools. Some of the most impactful moments of my young life are tied to our schools and the opportunities they afford.
Some examples include my fifth-grade teacher fueling my passion for American history by having a Revolutionary War debate between Patriots and Loyalists; the closing argument I gave at our middle school mock trial competition that showed me the power of my voice; as a freshman, the teacher who took a chance and supported forming a new club that taught me possibilities exist if you are brave enough to ask; finally playing basketball, the sport I love with the people I love, taught me about the power of grit, belief and who I am.
These moments are points when individuals invested in me. Beyond individuals, these moments are representative of an investment made by our community in kids like me. By supporting previous levies that funded sports, clubs and special programs in our schools, our community made those moments possible. That is the opportunity you have Feb. 14, to support the Marysville School District levy and continue to invest in kids and our schools so the next generation can experience their collection of moments.
I have infinite pride and belief in our schools and community’s capacity for greatness and potential for positive change. That requires continued investment not just from individuals but from a community. Please share in that belief and embrace the fact that this next generation of Marysville kids is deserving of every ounce of our investment. Vote yes.
