Harsher sentences needed here

I am writing you today with disgust over the pathetic sentencing of a repeated sex offender. Richard Leon Hosier is a name to be remembered. He has earned it after all the lives he has tortured. He may not have raped anyone, but writing notes on girls’ underwear and notes to a daycare center show that it was only a matter of time before he would strike again. In 1983, Hosier was convicted of first-degree rape of a 16-year-old girl while using a knife.

Neal Friedman, Hosier’s defense lawyer, claimed that Hosier was venting “his feelings instead of physically acting on them.” That’s it, let’s all feel sorry for him. This poor convicted sex offender was only trying to deny his impulses by simply venting to children. What about the 13-year-old girl who was the target of his venting?

The judge sentenced him to five years in prison and six years of probation. Although what he did wasn’t as bad as raping a girl, this is a man who has done this before. We gave him a second chance and he threw it in our faces. I propose that we be more strict with repeat sex offenders. If we can possibly prevent this from happening again, there would be one less child hiding in fear over a dangerous man ready to strike again.
