But above, not below: Astronomers have discovered a planet in another solar system that is about the same size as Earth and is composed of a rock core like ours. The planet, dubbed Kepler-78b, is very close to its sun; its surface temperature is more than 2,000 degrees.
Given that heat, the planet may well be home to a German guy with a funny moustache, a tall bearded Saudi man and certain other characters.
Speaking of heat: Residents of a blue-collar Southern California town complain that a nearby factory emits odors that give them headaches. What do you suppose this factory manufactures: Cleaning solvent? Chemical weapons? Nope — it makes Sriracha, the chili sauce with the rooster on the bottle.
The town wants the plant to shut down until its owners figure out how to make the odors go away. That could trigger a shortage of Sriracha. But fear not — you’ve probably had a bottle of the stuff in your fridge since 2007.
Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1961, the body of Josef Stalin was removed from Lenin’s Tomb.
Stalin’s body was placed in a crate marked “Ship to Kepler-78b.”
