Training for disabled workers
Lack of support for some
I am writing as a young man with autism spectrum disorder and anxiety issues who is trying to live as much of a normal life as he can. I am trying to be successful in employment and life in general, despite my struggles in daily life and have been working with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation the last few months. Progress has been slow with many speed bumps; it was going smooth until I started working with an employment specialist with a community services agency.
The struggles have been constant. My employment specialist has continuously been going against my contract and when I remind her of my needs, stated in the contract, she doesn’t seem to care so I made a complaint to her supervisor, which I had every right to do; but the agency doesn’t want to help me anymore just because of the issues I have came forward about.
I am writing to the newspaper today because I believe this is a major contribution to the unemployment situation in America, because there are many Americans with disabilities who want to work but aren’t getting the support they need.
