On the Surface
Microsoft finally entered the post-PC wars Monday with the Surface tablet. Since Microsoft’s a personal computing pioneer, The Buzz got to thinking about the historically themed apps and accessories we’d like to see.
A MSDOS app: Imagine controlling your Surface not by swiping the screen, but by typing commands like dir /s /w /p on the unit’s detachable keyboard. Try doing THAT on the iPad’s touch-screen keyboard!
A WordStar app: Continue the 1983 retro theme with this writing tool. Have fun memorizing the 19 different keystroke combos for moving the cursor around the screen.
A Clippy app: Bet this chirpy guy would have tons of neat recommendations for your Netflix queue. First Surface owner who figures out how to turn him off wins a prize.
F for Fake: A businessman in China who claimed to have purchased a U.S. bank for $60 million now admits the bank doesn’t exist and he made the whole thing up in a bid to gain fame and standing.
Not only is the guy a faker, but his timing is terrible; in the fall of 2008, he could have scored a real (sort of) bank, WaMu, for a song.
