How many more lives are going to be tragically lost before speed limits are reduced in the congested areas of our head-on highways? I live just off of Highway 9 in the Clearview area and am very concerned about the rates of speed most people travel – beginning north of Clearview and continuing up to U.S. 2 north of Snohomish. Numerous local access roads and personal driveways feed off of this highway where people often travel in excess of the posted 55 miles per hour.
As we all are aware, Snohomish County has seen rapid growth and an increase in traffic. There are many more people traveling this stretch of highway and many more driveways that access it now. This is a local access highway and not a limited access freeway!
I believe those who travel this road and live near it should demand that the speed limit and accident rates be studied along this stretch of Highway 9. How many more lives will be tragically altered or lost before the state does the right thing and lowers the speed limit? These are our family, friends, neighbors and children who are losing their lives on a near weekly basis.
