We are sick of red-light runners in Marysville. It is very common to see as many as three drivers run a red light. In two separate incidents, we saw a logging truck and a semi come down the hill from Highway 9 on 64th and blow right through the red light at 67th. They never even slowed down. The semi sounded his horn. Anyone on 67th who mistakenly thought that they had the right to proceed just because the light had turned green would have been dead.
Since no community can afford to have “a cop on every corner,” red-light cameras would be a good investment in safety. As to “revenue by citation,” let those who display a reckless, arrogant disregard for the safety of anyone else on the road pay the fines they incur. There is an old saying, “If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.” It still applies.
