Trash talk

It may come in handy someday: The economic downturn has now reached the landfill. County transfer stations are handling less construction debris and garbage, which could mean more layoffs for county workers. King and Snohomish counties are even battling each other for the right to handle household rubbish in south Snohomish County.

It’s happened. We’ve become our grandmothers. We obviously are rinsing off and smoothing out bits of foil, saving Cool Whip tubs and darning our socks.

And raising chickens, too: Feed stores in Snohomish County are reporting an increase in the number of city-slicker customers who are buying chicks to raise as egg-laying hens in backyard coops.

However, you’ll want to check with your city’s code before you lay down money for the pigs and dairy cattle you’ll need for a complete breakfast.

Thank goodness for soft toilet paper: The pilot of a Cessna was able to walk away after he crashed into several portable toilets in a storage yard next to a Puyallup airfield on Friday.

The FAA is investigating but may not be able to determine the cause of the crash as they now have nothing to go on.
