For nearly a decade, a simple promise has guided the partnership between Bob’s Burgers & Brew owner Carrie deKubber and Casino Road Kids Ministries Executive Director Tyrone McMorris: When kids on Casino Road need support, they show up – together.
What began as a small act of generosity during the holidays has grown into a steady, behind-the-scenes commitment that feeds children, strengthens families and builds trust in one of Everett’s most underserved neighborhoods.
DeKubber first connected with Casino Road Kids Ministries after learning about the organization’s work with children and youth facing barriers linked to poverty, food insecurity and limited access to resources.
Today, Bob’s Burgers & Brew frequently provides meals for the ministry’s Homework Clubs, helping ensure children arrive to a warm dinner and a welcoming space.
“Food insecurity is a growing challenge on Casino Road,” McMorris says. “Every evening, during our various kids clubs, we make sure children are fed dinner – because you can’t focus on homework when you’re hungry.”
Casino Road Kids Ministries serves elementary through high school students five days a week through after-school and evening programs that combine academic support, mentoring and Bible-based teaching.
“Our goal is to come alongside children and youth and remind them that God values them, that they’re capable of completing school, and that they can be agents of change in their own community,” McMorris says.
Beyond weekly clubs, deKubber’s support extends to major community events, including the ministry’s large back-to-school celebration, where hundreds of families receive backpacks, school supplies, haircuts and meals.
Over the years, McMorris has watched children grow up through the program, return as adults and eventually bring their own children back to partake in club nights.
“Some of the kids we served years ago now bring their own kids,” he says. “That’s when you realize the impact reaches far beyond their formative years.”
For Tyrone McMorris, the heart of the work is presence
“What inspires me most is the power of consistency – showing up week after week and being present in someone’s life,” he says. “We’re invited into these kids’ lives and believe walking alongside them is a privilege.”
While Bob’s Burgers & Brew is known for serving great food, deKubber’s leadership reflects something deeper.
“She’s an unsung hero,” McMorris says. “She prefers to stay behind the scenes, but her commitment – to this community and to her staff – runs deep.”
Together, Bob’s Burgers & Brew and Casino Road Kids Ministries show what community impact can look like when businesses and nonprofits work side by side – not for recognition, but for the long haul.
