When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Where: Lake Stevens H.S.
Radio: KRKO 1380 AM
The skinny: The Wesco 4A champion Vikings host the South Puget Sound League 4A sixth-place Bisons. Lake Stevens, the 2021 4A state runner-up, looks to reach the round of 16 for the eighth consecutive season. Bethel’s last state berth came as a 3A school in 2019.
Bethel: 4-5; beat South Kitsap 6-0, beat Bellarmine 7-0, lost to Curtis 42-0, beat Rogers (Puyallup) 44-7, beat Olympia 21-13, lost to 4A No. 6 Emerald Ridge 28-7, lost to Puyallup 17-6, lost to No. 3 Sumner 42-0, lost to 4A No. 9 Graham-Kapowsin 34-14
About the Bisons: It’s been an up-and-down year for Bethel while competing in the strong SPSL 4A, which sports three top-10 teams. The Bisons handled the lighter portion of their league slate, beating the four teams behind them in the standings by an average of 14.5 points while earning two shutouts. But Bethel struggled against the top half of its league, losing all five games by an average 27.2 points. Juniors Roy Lockley and Jovan Willis pace the backfield with a combined 850 yards and six TDs rushing. Freshman Evan Barnes and senior Nate Negron-Harris have split time at quarterback and combined to complete 42.6% of their passes for 362 yards, three TDs and seven interceptions. Sophomore Zaydrius Rainey-Sale leads the defense with 5.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.
Lake Stevens: 7-2; lost to Garfield 26-16, beat 3A No. 5 Bellevue 37-28, beat Federal Way 63-21, lost to West Linn (Oregon) 45-6, beat Jackson by forfeit, beat Eastlake 41-16, beat Mariner 48-0, beat Kamiak 56-10, beat 4A No. 5 Glacier Peak 57-17
About the Vikings: After taking some early lumps during a daunting non-league schedule, powerhouse Lake Stevens once again proved it’s the king of Snohomish County football by dismantling previously top-ranked Glacier Peak in last week’s de facto Wesco 4A title game. The Vikings, who extended their Wesco 4A winning streak to 54 games, now start their quest to prove their also the state’s top squad in 4A. University of Notre Dame commit Jayden Limar, a four-star senior recruit according to 247sports.com, leads an explosive offense that averages 40.5 points per game. He’s rushed for 1,174 yards and 21 TDs and added another 136 yards and one TD receiving. Sophomore quarterback Kolton Matson has completed 69.7% of his passes for 830 yards, eight TDs and five interceptions. He went 11-of-15 for 191 yards and two TDs during a stellar performance against Glacier Peak. The trio of Isaac Redford, Cassidy Bolong-Banks and Cole Becker have combined for 897 yards and nine TDs receiving. Bolong-Banks, a sophomore, also has 255 yards and three TDs rushing. Redford, a two-star senior, leads the defense with five interceptions, and junior Ashten Hendrickson has four sacks.
Herald pick: Lake Stevens
WOODINVILLE VS. NO. 5 GLACIER PEAK
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Where: Veterans Memorial Stadium (Snohomish H.S.)
Webcast: STSPN.com
The skinny: The Wesco 4A runner-up Grizzlies host the KingCo 4A fifth-place Falcons in a 2021 regular-season rematch. Glacier Peak aims to secure its second straight state berth. Woodinville last reached the state playoffs in 2019, the final season of five straight appearances.
Woodinville: 4-5; lost to Aiea (Hawaii) 38-14, beat Tahoma 17-7, beat Issaquah 21-8, lost to Coeur d’Alene (Idaho) 28-14, lost to Eastlake 27-0, lost to Mount Si 26-0, lost to Bothell 20-0, beat North Creek 7-5, beat Skyline 17-7
About the Falcons: Woodinville was a powerhouse for much of the 2010s, including a string of four straight double-digit win seasons from 2016-19. But a loss this week would hand the once-mighty Falcons their first losing season since 2009. Woodinville’s strength has been the defense, and the unit was especially stout the past two weeks in a 7-5 win over North Creek and a 17-7 upset over KingCo 4A champion Skyline. The offense hasn’t been near as effective, though. Woodinville has been shutout three times and hasn’t scored more than 21 points in a game. Senior Cash Sanders leads the Falcons on defense with four interceptions and senior Trenton Dingers has five sacks. Junior QB Tyler Jones has completed 48.5% of his passes for 996 yards, three TDs and eight interceptions. Senior Andy Henry leads the receiving corps with 238 yards, and junior Chase Rudin paces the ground game with 398 yards.
Glacier Peak: 7-2, beat Snohomish 42-13, beat 4A No. 7 Camas 34-28, beat 3A No. 7 Ferndale 42-14, lost to Rocklin (California) 16-14, beat Mariner 42-7, beat Kamiak 47-22, beat Marysville Pilchuck 49-18, beat Jackson 55-0, lost to 4A No. 1 Lake Stevens 57-17
About the Grizzlies: GP’s hopes of finally dethroning powerhouse Lake Stevens ended an emphatic fashion in last week’s blowout loss to the Vikings. Now the Grizzlies get to do something they’ve done many times in the past — face a KingCo team in the postseason. GP’s track record against the perennially strong league isn’t pretty. The Grizzlies are 3-14 all-time and 1-9 in the postseason against KingCo teams, but the program’s fortunes have changed in the recent past with GP going 3-1 against the conference last fall. Two-star senior quarterback River Lien has completed 62.1% of his throws for 1,613 yards, 26 TDs and six interceptions. His top target is three-star Washington State University commit Trey Leckner, who’s averaging 21.4 yards per catch with 536 yards and 12 TDs. Senior Ryan King and junior Chrisvin Bonshe lead the backfield with a combined 1,176 yards and 12 TDs. The dual-threat Lien also has 357 yards and four TDs on the ground. GP’s defense has forced 12 interceptions, including a team-high five interceptions from junior Owen Gluth. Leckner leads the team with four sacks.
Herald pick: Glacier Peak

Kamiak: 3-6; lost to Arlington 28-14, beat Edmonds-Woodway 21-20, lost to 3A No. 8 Monroe 44-14, lost to 4A No. 10 Skyview 48-20, lost to 4A No. 7 Camas 56-8, lost to 4A No. 5 Glacier Peak 47-22, beat Jackson 42-21, lost to 4A No. 1 Lake Stevens 56-10, beat Mariner 21-7
About the Knights: Kamiak played one of the toughest schedules of any team in Snohomish County, with five of its nine opponents ending the season with a top-10 ranking. The Knights took some beatings along the way but ultimately find themselves back in the Week 10 playoffs after topping rival Mariner for Wesco 4A’s final berth last week. It’s the first time Kamiak has reached the postseason in back-to-back years since 2013-14. Sophomore running back Jullian Notoa leads the offense with 811 yards and seven TDs rushing. Senior QB Ben’tre Worthy has completed 47.3% of his passes for 838 yards, 10 TDs and six interceptions. His top target is four-star sophomore tight end T’Andre Waverly, who’s averaging 17.8 yards per catch with 426 yards and six TDs. Junior Miles Moffett has added 403 total yards and two TDs on offense.

Sophomore Devon Forehand has completed 72.7% of his passes for 1,582 yards, 20 TDs and two interceptions. Senior Payton Faker, a two-star recruit, has completed 55.9% of his throws for 1,039 yards, 14 TDs and seven interceptions. Two-star senior Mason Hayes leads the team with 849 yards and 11 TDs on 46 receptions. Three-star senior Maclane Watkins also has 711 yards and 10 TDs on 40 receptions. Senior Xe’ree Alexander, a three-star linebacker recruit who’s committed to Arizona State University, leads the rushing attack with 363 yards and nine TDs. The Lancers also have the state’s top senior offensive line recruit in four-star University of Southern California commit Micah Banuelos.
Herald pick: Kennedy Catholic
CLASS 3A

Thoresen has 872 total yards of offense with 13 TDs, Moffitt has 737 total yards and 12 TDs and Dehnert has 640 total yards and five TDs. The trio has also combined for 11 interceptions on defense.

About the Bearcats: Monroe’s unbeaten run came to an end during an uncharacteristically sloppy offensive performance against Wesco 3A champion Ferndale last week, but the Bearcats still find themselves in a familiar place this Friday as they’re set to make their 11th consecutive appearance in a winner-to-state game. Monroe’s explosive offense is led by three-star junior quarterback Blake Springer. He’s completed 67.5% of his passes for 1,928 yards, 22 TDs and eight interceptions. Do-it-all playmaker Beau Pruett, a sophomore, has amassed 1,377 total yards and 21 TDs on offense. Seniors Kody Edelbrock and Trent Bublitz have combined for 881 yards and 10 TDs receiving.
