SMOLTZ PREPARES TO START REHAB
OAKLAND, Calif. — Boston right-handerer John Smoltz, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, will make a rehab start Saturday in Florida and plans to be with the Red Sox by early June.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired switch-hitting outfielder Delwyn Young from the Los Angeles Dodgers for two minor league players or for cash. Young has a .267 average in 110 games over three major league seasons.
