EVERETT — The Cascade boys basketball team got a scare from crosstown rival Everett in the annual Bru-Gull Fest showdown, but the Bruins prevailed down the stretch for a 67-56 non-conference victory on Friday night.
Everett pulled within 48-47 with a little over four minutes to play in the game, but Cascade got seven points apiece from senior guards Cameron McGrath and Drew Magaoay in the remaining moments to pull away for the victory.
The Bruins, who improved to 3-0, rallied from a 26-20 halftime deficit to take the lead after three quarters and pull away in the fourth.
“In the second half we played a little more as a team,” said Bruins coach Darrell McNeal. “We got away from the individual and actually started running some offense.
“We hit some good free throws down the stretch, and even when they made a run we did a nice job defensively.”
McGrath had a game-high 24 points for the Bruins, and Magaoay and Isaiah Gotell each added 20.
