The first edition of the Shoreline Slam Tennis Tournament, hosted by the Shorewood and Shorecrest high school tennis programs last weekend, saw several current and former Wesco players crowned champions. More than 160 players took part, coming from Vancouver Island, across Washington state and even Luxembourg.

The Shoreline Slam included Gold, Silver and Bronze divisions for singles and doubles, and Gold and Silver divisions for mixed doubles. The three-day tournament was open to all students entering grades 9-12, as well as 2024 graduates.

Rylie Gettmann, the former Shorewood No. 1 singles player and three-time Class 3A state singles placer, claimed titles in two divisions: Girls Gold Doubles and Mixed Doubles Gold.

Gettmann and former Stormrays teammate Alex Mignogna topped Lakeside’s Addie Streidl and Caroline Carter 6-1, 6-1 in the Girls Gold Doubles championship match. Gettmann and Bishop Blanchet’s Luke Madath bested Streidl and Edmonds-Woodway’s Nalu Akiona 6-1, 6-1 in the Mixed Doubles Gold championship match.

Gettmann also finished runner-up to former Shorewood teammate Carlota Garibay Romero in the Girls Gold Singles bracket, as Garibay Romero won 6-1, 6-1.

Madath and Shorewood’s Peter Kosten were champions in the Boys Gold Doubles division, beating Overlake’s Benjamin Ta and Henry Zhu 6-4, 6-2.
