The Game

This one wasn’t ever really in doubt. The Tips scored at 2:32 and 7:32 in the opening period and never trailed in a win over Spokane Sunday evening at Xfinity Arena.

The only real mystery was if goalie Carter Hart was going to get his seventh shutout. He appeared poised to do so until the final minute, when Hudson Elynuik left the penalty box and found a bouncing puck right on his stick. He beat Hart on the breakaway to sully a solid performance by the Everett netminder.

The Tips didn’t experience the letdown they’ve sometimes had after big victories against Seattle (see the 4-1 loss at Spokane on Jan. 31 and the 6-4 loss at Victoria on Feb. 8).

“I thought (the energy) was pretty good,” Everett head coach Kevin Constantine said. “The last two times we’ve beaten Seattle we’ve lost our games following, which is somewhat typical. You have a big emotional rivalry game and then you have a little bit of a let-up. So that was our focus today was (to) not let up after a big win last night.”

Constantine has mentioned several times that a successful season isn’t just about putting together long winning streaks – it’s also about avoiding long losing streaks. The Silvertips have yet again avoided a prolonged losing streak with back-to-back wins to conclude the weekend.

The Tips now look ahead to Kelowna coming to town on Wednesday.

The Turning Point

Everett G Carter Hart turned away a half-dozen or so shots during a brief flurry early in the second period on Spokane’s only power play. That kept the 2-0 and the Tips added two more goals later in the frame to pull away.

Three Stars

1. Everett D Cole MacDonald: The overager assisted on Everett’s final three goals and tallied a plus-2 rating.

2. Everett F Patrick Bajkov: The 18-year-old scored twice for the Tips.

3. Everett G Carter Hart: Though he wasn’t challenged much, the Everett netminder made 20 saves on 21 shots.
