Jackson stages big comeback

MILL CREEK — Jackson’s season appeared to be over.

Behind by 13 points early in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 4A District 1 elimination game, the Timberwolves teetered on the brink of extinction.

Then they made a comeback — and what a comeback.

Jackson outscored Lake Stevens by 18 points in the last period to take a 57-50 victory and remain alive in the district playoffs. The Timberwolves play loser-out consolation semifinal at 8 p.m. Wednesday on their home court.

“We just played good defense, forced some turnovers and made some big shots,” Jackson coach Steve Johnson said. “Someone told me Lake Stevens scored only one point in the last six minutes.”

Jackson’s Bryan Koch scored six of his eight points in the final quarter. Brertt Kingma led the Timberwolves with 17 points.
