EVERETT — The Kamiak Knights and Jackson Timberwolves put on a show so offensive it’d make Chris Rock proud.
Justin Glenn rushed for 227 yards and two touchdowns, quarterback Jacob Jansen threw for 175 yards and a touchdown and Kamiak held off Jackson 38-35 in a Wesco South game that saw both teams rack up more than 1,000 yards of total offense.
With the victory the Knights (5-1 in league, 6-1 overall) clinched a 4A quad-district playoff berth.
Kamiak also recorded the football team’s 100th victory in school history.
The top three 4A South teams qualify for the postseason. Jackson (3-3, 3-4) needed a win to keep pace with Kamiak and Mariner.
Despite the offensive output, it actually took the Knights and Timberwolves a quarter to get on the scoreboard.
After battling to a scoreless, first-quarter tie, the two teams traded jabs in the second quarter, putting up 47 points before the half.
Jackson’s Taylor Cox got the scoring started on a 12-yard touchdown rush on the second play of the quarter.
The junior running back rushed for two of his four touchdowns in the second quarter and finished with 299 yards rushing on 34 carries.
Cox scored the game’s final score when his 70-yard run cut Kamiak’s 10-point lead to just three with 5:48 remaining.
The Knights had opened the lead seconds earlier when Jansen’s 5-yard keeper gave Kamiak a 38-28 lead.
Jansen rushed 13 times for 57 yards.
Kamiak finished with 590 yards of total offense.
The Timberwolves finished with 437 total yards.
Those yards don’t include the 224 that kick returner Daniel Reimer complied on three second-quarter returns.
The senior had consecutive returns of 79, 58 and 82 yards, giving the Timberwolves great field position. All three runs led to Jackson scores.
In that same quarter, Kamiak countered with three huge runs of their own.
Glenn had TD runs of 76 and 51 yards and senior back Kaniala Manzano added a 75-yard run.
Manzano finished with nine carries for 131 yards.
Reimer’s 82-yard runback set up a 7-yard Cox touchdown run that tied the score at 22-22.
Kamiak bounced right back getting a 32-yard field goal by Dylan Gaddy with 54 seconds remaining in the half that gave the Knights the lead for good at 25-22.
Kamiak opened its lead to 31-22 when Jansen hit tight end Skylar Stormo for a 16-yard TD reception.
Stormo finished with four catches for 68 yards.
Kamiak and Mariner remained tied for the No. 2 spot in the South division.
The two teams face each other in the regular season finale on Oct. 26.
