Kamiak zooms to crown

EVERETT — Kamiak defeated Mariner 25-12, 25-5, 25-14 in a Wesco South match Thursday at Mariner in the last game of the regular season.

The victory gave Kamiak (13-1 overall) an unbeaten division record of 8-0 and the South’s No. 1 seed into the 4A District 1 playoffs.

“The seniors were fired up,” Knights coach Debra Crawford said. “They controlled the match from the first serve on.”

Julia Church had 12 kills and, at one point in the second game, got her team on an eight-point run with her exceptional serving.

The Knights begin district play Thursday at Marysville-Pilchuck H.S.

Bailey Jones had 10 kills and Jordan Keller had nine kills for Kamiak.

Shasta Glovoe led Mariner (3-5, 5-7) with 18 digs, Teammate Ludia Gaboronskiy had six kills and 10 digs.

Shorecrest 3, Mountlake Terrace 0: At Shoreline, Anna Herold had 20 assists and four kills and Jamie McDonald added nine kills to help Shorecrest to the 25-8, 25-15, 25-10 Wesco South victory. Kerry Clavadetscher finished with nine kills and 13 assists for the Scots (6-2 in league, 12-2 overall). Lael Swanson had five kills for Mountlake Terrace (3-5, 6-8), Anja Pendergraft recorded 16 digs and Christine Jenson finished with 15 assists.

Meadowdale 3, Shorewood 0: At Shoreline, Katie Cowan had 27 assists for the Mavericks in their 25-12, 25-19, 25-9 Wesco South victory over Shorewood. For Meadowdale (4-4 league, 8-5 overall), Danielle Gilbertson had 10 kills, Mara Eberth had 12 digs and Brianna Dyson had six kills and three aces. For Shorewood (1-7, 2-11), Katie Dapper had seven kills and three blocks and Caroline Soules had seven kills.

Edmonds-Woodway 3, Jackson 1: At Mill Creek, Leigh Fishback recorded 40 assists to lead Edmonds-Woodway to a 15-25, 25-19, 25-11, 25-16 volleyball defeat of Jackson. Fishback recorded 50 assists in a match against Marysville-Pilchuck earlier this season.

Cailin Fellows also contributed to the victory with 19 kills and Alex Storino had 17 digs. E-W’s (7-1 conference and 12-2 overall) Erin Lauber posted nine kills and three blocks, and Marisa Wellington eight kills.

Jackson (4-4 in conference and 6-8 overall) received 19 assists from Cerise Knakal, eight kills from Christy Cane, five aces from Sarah Bahk and 16 digs from Malisa Marisigan.

Monroe 3, Snohomish 0: At Snohomish, the Monroe volleyball team stayed unbeaten in the Wesco North by defeating Snohomish 25-16, 25-15, 25-15. Monroe (12-2 overall and 8-0 conference) was led in kills by Kylin Munoz with 14 and Kelsey Brennan with 12. Senior Shannon Nichols led Snohomish (6-7 overall and 3-5 conference) with 14 assists and five kills. Molly Miller also had six kills and five digs in the Panthers’ season-ending loss. Monroe goes into the first round of the 4A District 1 tournament Wednesday at Marysville-Pilchuck H.S. as the North’s No. 1 seed.

Everett 3, Lake Stevens 0: At Everett, Jacqui Bayne had 18 assists, Lana Fingarson 10 kills and six blocks, Laren Hope 15 digs and Kelli Wilner four aces and five blocks to lead Everett (4-4 league, 7-7 overall) to the 25-23, 25-12, 25-22 Wesco North win over Lake Stevens (2-6, 3-10). Kaitlyn Jones had 23 assists and Janae Harpham had seven kills for Lake Stevens. Everett begins play in the 3A District 1 tournament Saturday at Jackson H.S.

Cascade 3, Arlington 2: At Arlington, Kirstin Villanueva had 30 digs and Olivia Condotta recorded eight kills to help Cascade pull out the 12-25, 25-13, 27-25, 22-25, 17-15 Wesco North victory. Danielle Love finished with 15 kills and eight blocks for the Bruins (2-6 in league, 2-11 overall). Kyra Prause had 12 kills and 10 blocks for Arlington (0-8, 0-14), Ryanne Mueller added nine kills and Breanna Covey had 10 kills, nine blocks and served five aces.

Lynnwood 3 Stanwood 0: At Lynnwood, Kaytlyn Dill had 17 kills in the Royals’ 25-13, 25-22, 25-11 non-league victory over the Spartans (5-9 overall). Gabby Ovo added eight kills and eight digs, Jessica Barlow had nine blocks, Stephanie Mohoric had 35 assists and Katie Thurston had 12 digs for Lynnwood (2-12).

Cedarcrest 3, Granite Falls 1: At Duvall, Kristen McKinlay had 11 kills and Amber Shields recorded 37 assists to help Cedarcrest secure the Cascade Conference’s No. 2 seed to the Class 2A District 1 playoffs with a 25-18, 25-16, 11-25, 25-15 victory. Crystal Canady added seven kills and 13 digs for the Red Wolves (10-4 in league and overall) and Kayla Klaiber finished with 15 digs. Michaela Dudder had 12 kills for Granite Falls (8-6), Audrey Murphy added seven kills and Brennan Johnson recorded 12 digs.

South Whidbey 3 Lakewood 1: At Marysville, Lindsey Newman had 13 kills and 11 assists in the Falcons’ 25-17, 18-25, 27-25, 25-22 Cascade Conference victory. For South Whidbey (5-9 in league, 5-9 overall), Allison Wood had eight kills and Katie Holt had seven kills. Peyton Mizell had 26 assists and six digs for Lakewood (5-9, 6-9), Liliya Kibitskaya finished with10 kills and 20 digs, and Aly Stewart added seven kills.

Archbishop Murphy 3, Sultan 0: At Sultan, Archbishop Murphy started strong and rolled to a 25-6, 25-14, 25-10 Cascade Conference victory. Shannon Hoban had seven kills and Erica Frahm six to lead an Archbishop Murphy (12-2 league and overall) offensive effort that also featured 13 assists by Rachel Hyatt. Sultan (0-14, 0-14) was helped by 10 digs from Olivia Chanthalmalay and five blocks by Cassie Beucherie.

Darrington 3, Friday Harbor 0: Mandy Powell (34 assists, 20 digs) led Darrington in its Northwest 1A/2B sweep over Friday Harbor (3-9 in league, 3-10 overall). Caitlyn Pendergrass and Natasha Green combined for 18 kills to help the Loggers (10-2, 11-3) win the match 25-18, 25-12, 25-21.
