King’s boys win state title

CHENEY — Senior Curtis Clauson won three individual titles as the King’s boys won their fifth straight Class 1A state track championship on Saturday.

King’s scored 74 points. Hoquiam was second with with 48 points.

The University of Washington-bound Clauson won the long jump (23 feet, 4.25 inches), javelin (196-4) and 300-meter hurdles (39.31 seconds). Junior Hap Emmons finished first in the 800 (1:56.87) and third in the 1,600 (4:23.80).

Senior Slater Hirst placed third in the javelin (179-5) and the Knights (Hirst, Aaron VanGorkom, Josh Sowinski and Emmons) finished second in the 4×400 relay (3:30.04).

The King’s girls finished second with 49 points.

King’s Karlie Storkson won the 200 (26.07) and 400m (58.32), and ran a leg on the Knights’ first-place 4×200 relay team.
