Loni Tra could achieve a significant milestone this season as the top singles player for the Mariner girls tennis team.
“If things go right, I think she can be the first Mariner player in a couple of decades to qualify for state,” Marauders coach Ivan Paredes said. “Her game is a little above average, but her biggest strength is her high tennis IQ. She can think on the spot and improvise, and is a good defensive player.”
Paredes also has high hopes for his No. 2 singles player, Winnie Chen.
“She’s a big hitter. She’s not afraid to take a big chance on a big shot,” he said. “Right now we’re focusing on the postseason with (Loni and Winnie) and working with the younger generation to step up their games. We want to be competitive with other teams, and hopefully we can do a lot better in the second half of the season.”
