Pearrygin Lake, just outside Winthrop in Okanogan County, is one of the more popular eastside destination lakes for the outdoor aficionado from this area, With camping, two boat access areas and a state park, the lake attracts those looking for good fishing this time of year, along with a break from wet, chilly Western Washington weather.
The lake has been a top trout producer since the late-April general opener – putting out an average of 4.4 ‘bows on opening weekend – and it should continue to produce at that level for at least several weeks. The knock on Pearrygin has always been that the trout there usually tend to run on the small side, compared to other top lakes in the northern Columbia Basin, but the complaint was addressed by the state Fish and Wildlife Department this year through a nice plant of 500-plus triploid rainbow going 1 to 2 pounds in weight.
The 10- to 14-inch “catchables” this spring come from an unusually large fry plant of 70,000 fish, and the lake also holds holdover ‘bows to 15 or 16 inches.
Good stillfishing lake, good trolling lake, lots of bank access for those without a boat.
