Prep Athletes of the Week — April 12 – 18

The athletes of the week are selected by The Herald staff with input from local head coaches.

Parker Coffey

Meadowdale | Baseball

The senior catcher hit a three-run home run in Wednesday’s game against Wesco 3A South-leading Shorewood to jumpstart the Mavericks’ offense and help lead Meadowdale to the win. It was just the second loss of the year for Shorewood and a key victory for the Mavericks, who are fighting for a district berth.

Abby Winckler

Glacier Peak | Softball

Winckler batted 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in an 8-7 loss to Mountlake Terrace last Monday, 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in a 6-5 win over Oak Harbor last Tuesday and 5-for-6 with three doubles and four runs scored in a 22-9 win over Marysville Pilchuck this past Wednesday. For the week, Winckler batted 11-for-13 with six doubles, six runs scored and five RBI.

Aaron Roe

Jackson | Boys Track

The Jackson senior won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9 minutes, 19.96 seconds and placed fourth in the 1,600 (4:20.20) for the Timberwolves at the Bellevue Invite.

Justean Landis

Arlington | Girls Track

The Eastern Washington commit won the shot put and discus events at the Viking Invitational, helping lead the Arlington girls to a team title last weekend. Landis, who hurled the shot put 38 feet, 11.75 inches and the discus 131-7, was named the female Athlete of the Meet.

Trevor Frisby

Meadowdale | Boys Golf

Frisby hit a 1-under 35 in a match at Echo Falls Golf Course to earn medalist honors and lead Meadowdale to a team victory in a match against Monroe, Edmonds-Woodway and Marysville Getchell.

Anna Lundquist

Lake Stevens | Girls Golf

Lundquist led the Vikings with a 40 in a match against Marysville Getchell and Marysville Pilchuck at Cedarcrest Golf Course. In the event, Lundquist edged teammate Mac Sundvor (42) for medalist honors.

Ellie Otteson

Snohomish | Girls Tennis

The Panthers’ No. 4 singles player went 2-0 in matches against Mount Vernon and Jackson last week, with the latter being a three-set thriller. Otteson’s victories helped Snohomish (9-0 league, 11-0 overall) remain undefeated this season.

Isaac Whitaker

Kamiak | Boys Soccer

Whitaker had 10 saves in last Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Shorecrest. Coach Bill Wilkins credited Whitaker, saying most wouldn’t have been able to react to or handle several of the shots. It was the first loss of the season for the Scots.

Joseph Prikhodko

Kamiak | Boys Lacrosse

The freshman saved 20 shots and dished out an assist in No. 7 Kamiak’s 16-4 win over No. 6 Everett. With the win, Kamiak stayed unbeaten in league play and in the running for the league championship. It was the first loss of the season for Everett.

Avery and Anabel Ohsman

Snohomish | Girls Lacrosse

The two sisters combined to score five goals in Snohomish’s 16-3 win over Bellingham last Thursday. Avery scored three goals and Anabel finished with two.
