Prep boys tennis/soccer: Jackson freshman nets 4A South singles crown

MILL CREEK — Michael Chamerski is new to this postseason tennis stuff — but he gets it.

The Jackson freshman captured the Wesco 4A South singles championship Friday at Jackson High School with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mike Stepenski of Edmonds-Woodway.

He will advance to next week’s District 1 tournament at Mt. Vernon H.S. as the Wesco’s No. 1 seed.

In the doubles competition, Tristan Reni and Scott McConnell of Shorewood took the title in straight sets. Reni and McConnell were knocked off in the quarterfinals last year but came back to finish third, survived the district meet and gained some state meet experience.
