Prep football playoff picture clearing up entering Week 9

Heading into the final night of the regular season, the prep football postseason picture is becoming clearer.

But there’s still plenty to be decided before next week’s district crossover round gets underway.

Below is a league-by-league rundown of various playoff and seeding scenarios involving local teams.

Wesco 4A

Monroe and Lake Stevens square off Friday for the conference title and top seed. The loser will be the No. 2 seed.

Glacier Peak and Jackson have already secured the league’s final two postseason spots, with the Grizzlies locked in as the No. 3 seed and the Timberwolves as the No. 4 seed.

Wesco 3A North

Arlington’s win over Squalicum on Thursday finalized the league’s postseason seeding. Ferndale is the top seed, followed by Oak Harbor at No. 2 and Arlington at No. 3. Fourth-seeded Stanwood faces Wesco 3A South No. 4 seed Meadowdale in a district play-in game Tuesday.

Wesco 3A South

Edmonds-Woodway, Everett and Snohomish have each clinched district crossover berths, but their seeding has yet to be determined.

■ If Edmonds-Woodway beats Snohomish on Friday to claim the outright league title and top seed, then Everett would be the No. 2 seed and Snohomish would be the No. 3 seed.

■ If Snohomish wins and Everett loses to Lynnwood, then Snohomish would be the top seed, followed by Edmonds-Woodway at No. 2 and Everett at No. 3.

■ If Snohomish and Everett both win, there would be a three-way tie for first place between Snohomish, Edmonds-Woodway and Everett. In that case, Edmonds-Woodway would be the top seed, Snohomish would be No. 2 and Everett would be No. 3 by virtue of preseason tiebreaker draws.

■ Meadowdale is locked into the No. 4 spot and will face Wesco 3A North No. 4 seed Stanwood in a district play-in game Tuesday.

Northwest Conference 2A

Lakewood has clinched a district crossover berth is currently in a three-way tie for first place with Sedro-Woolley and Burlington-Edison. If all three teams win Friday, Lakewood would be the conference’s No. 3 seed by virtue of preseason tiebreaker draws. Lakewood holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Burlington-Edison. Sedro-Woolley holds the tiebreaker over Lakewood.

Cascade Conference 2A

■ Archbishop Murphy is currently atop the 2A District 1/2 RPI rankings and will likely be the top “South” seed.

■ Granite Falls clinches a trip to the district crossover round by beating Sultan on Friday, according to bi-district RPI expert Ted House. The Tigers are currently ahead of Lynden for the third and final “South” postseason spot in the 2A District 1/2 RPI rankings. If Granite Falls loses, numerous factors will determine the final berth. Mountlake Terrace is still alive for the final spot.

Cascade Conference 1A

Sultan has secured the top seed. King’s is the No. 2 seed and Cedar Park Christian is the No. 3 seed.
