PREP GIRLS GOLF: Kamiak’s Moon 2nd at 4A state

Seo Hee Moon of Kamiak, the 2007 4A girls golf state champion, shot 1-under-par 71 Thursday at Pasco’s Sun Willows Golf Course in her attempt to win a second state title. But Chessey Thomas of Lewis &Clark snuck by her with a 68 for a two-round total of 139, one shot better than Moon.

Moon’s second-place finish helped Kamiak finish third in the team competition behind Lewis &Clark and Richland.

In the 3A meet at Richland’s Horn Rapids Golf Club, Jody Barhanovich and Stefanie Soelling combined to give Everett a sixth-place finish. Holy Names Academy won the team title. Barhanovich tied for 11th with a 162 and Soelling tied for 15th at 166. Seattle Prep’s Katrina Hegge won the individual championship by five shots with a 139.

Sultan’s Jennifer Lee placed fourth in the 2A meet at the Apple Tree Golf Resort in Yakima. Lee shot a 158, 10 shots behind individual champion Claire Rachor, who led Bellingham to the team title.

Kelli Bowers of Chelan shot a 146 at Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland to win the 1A individual championship by a whopping 27 shots. Royal captured the team title.

Ariell Eneix of Grace Academy was seventh in the 1B/2B meet with a 179 at the Tri-City Country Club. Kristen Rue led Life Christian Academy to the team title with a 141, 22 shots better than the field.
