Prep tennis: Jackson 5, Kamiak 2

MILL CREEK — Mitch Williamson cruised in his singles match over Andrew Lee, 6-1, 6-2, and Jackson defeated Kamiak 5-2 in a Wesco South boys tennis match held at Jackson High School on Wednesday.

“Mitch played really well,” Jackson head coach David Hutt said. “He was in complete control of t

he match. He jumped ahead right away and controlled the match from beginning to end.”

Peter Cung and Ben Meitzner also won their singles matches for the Timberwolves (3-0 league, 4-0 overall). Meitzner, a freshman, is undefeated in singles play on the season.

James Okubo and David Hong remained undefeated in doubles play for Jackson, overcoming a first set loss to Daniel Cho and Joseph Lee before winning the next two.

“It was an uncharacteristic set for them, they got beat up on a bit,” Hutt said. “They settled down and played extremely well. It was nice to see them bounce back.”

Overall, Hutt was quite pleased with the outcome. “I’m very excited we were able to beat them, now it’s whether or not we can improve in all areas the next time we play. The second time around is always more difficult.”

Sung Yu in singles, and the doubles team of Tim Moon and Colin Kim were the winners for Kamiak (1-2, 3-2).
