Prep track: Lake Stevens Viking Classic

LAKE STEVENS — The Lake Stevens boys won the Lake Stevens Viking Classic track meet on Saturday.

The Vikings edged Arlington in the 28th edition of the annual meet, thanks to victories in the final track event and the final field event, which were two of the three events the Vikings captured

on the day.

Lake Stevens’ 96 points proved to be enough for first place. Arlington finished three points back. Shorecrest finished in fifth place with 70 points and Edmonds-Woodway took eighth with 20 points.

“It was kind of surprising,” Lake Stevens coach Jeff Page said. “It was fun to win. We can definitely build on this.”

Gig Harbor’s Justin Browne took home male athlete of the meet honors.

On the girls side, Edmonds-Woodway was the top local finisher in second place — 30 points behind Gig Harbor’s meet-winning 117. Arlington and Lake Stevens tied for fourth with 70 points and Shorecrest came in seventh with 53.

Taylor Reynolds from Eastmont (Wenatchee) broke a 21-year old meet record, winning the triple jump with a mark of 37 feet, seven inches. The senior also ran the lead leg of Eastmont’s winning 4×100 relay team to earn the female athlete of the meet honors.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Amia Nash’s performance was one of the highlights for local individuals. The Warriors’ senior took first in the 200 meter and 400 meter runs and anchored her team’s 4×100 relay (second place) and 4×200 relay (first place).
