Snohomish claims 10th at Pac Coast Wrestling Championships

RIDGEFIELD — Five area teams competed Saturday morning at the Pac Coast Wrestling Championships, with Snohomish earning a 10th-place finish. Other area participants in the 63-team tournament included Marysville Pilchuck (11th), Stanwood (16th), Mariner (45th) and Jackson (51st).

Three wrestlers made their respective first-place matches — all three won their brackets.

Championship matches:

165—Joseph Davis (Marysville Pilchuck) dec. Kingston McPherson (Mountain View), 6-3; 190—Odin Schwabenbauer (Snohomish) pinned Jasper Armstrong (Hockinson), 1:12; 215—Elijah Fleck (Stanwood) pinned Landon Bolson (Chiawana), 2:41.

Monroe earns multiple top finishes at Doc Herren Holiday Tournament

AUBURN — Although no Monroe wrestlers made a first-place match, the Bearcats had a solid outing Saturday morning at the 11-team Doc Herren Holiday Tournament — five wrestlers finished in the top five of their respective brackets.

Monroe wrestlers Aiden Shipley and Lucas Hauswald faced off in the 126-pound bracket’s third-place match, with Shipley winning. Nels Ekman took fourth in the 175-pound bracket while Dylan Weekley finished third in the 190-pound division with a third-place match win over fellow Bearcat Austin Greiner.

Team scores were not reported for the tournament.

Stanwood finishes second at the Borderite Blizzard

BLAINE — Two bracket wins propelled Stanwood to a second-place finish at the 18-team Borderite Blizzard. Four other area teams competed at the meet, with Edmonds-Woodway taking ninth, Lakewood taking 11th, Kamiak finishing 14th and Granite Falls placing 18th.

Championship matches:

120—Jordyn O’Neill (Stanwood) pinned Hailey Miller (Stanwood), 1:05; 125—Micayla Yates (Sedro-Woolley) pinned Signe Cairus (Stanwood), 0:53; 130—Aliza Price (Woodinville) pinned Lillian Burgess (Kamiak), 0:48; 140—Tyla Olson (Mount Baker) pinned Riley Rich (Lakewood), 0:11; 190—Makayla Finch (Stanwood) pinned Kaniya Bagby (Squalicum), 0:47.

Bearcats take third at Doc Herren Holiday Tournament

AUBURN — Four first-place match berths powered Monroe to a third-place finish at the nine-team Doc Herren Holiday Tournament.

CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES:

115—Alice Rush (Auburn) pinned Milena Shipley (Monroe), 2:43; 125—Sheryl Joy Hufford (Monroe) pinned Rachel Park (Auburn), 5:18; 135—Haily Carswell (Monroe) pinned Willow Stokes (Mount Rainier), 0:39.

Finalists:

190—Annjel Fromal (Monroe), second place.

MIXED COMPETITION

Three area teams place at Northwest Duals

ALBANY, Ore. — A two-day, 40-team tournament culminated in three area wrestling teams earning top-16 finishes at the Northwest Duals tournament.

Lake Stevens placed fifth after going 6-2 in team matches, Arlington placed 12th after finishing 4-4 and Edmonds-Woodway took 14th with a 4-4 record.

While Shorewood did not place, the Stormrays’ Emiliano Olivera-Matias tied for a meet-high seven pins. Lake Stevens finished with 37 pins, good for 10th in the tournament.
