Royals top Silvertips 5-0

After allowing one goal through two periods, Everett surrenderd four in the third.

VICTORIA, B.C. — The Everett Silvertips trailed by a single goal after two periods.

Then things escalated quickly.

The Victoria Royals scored four times in the third period, chasing Everett goaltender Dustin Wolf for the first time in his young WHL career, and beat the Silvertips 5-0 before 5,207 fans at Save-On-Foods Centre.

Dante Hannoun, Matthew Phillips and Braydon Buziak all had a goal and an assist, and Griffen Outhouse saved all 38 shots he saw for his second shutout of the season for Victoria (22-15-3-1, 48 points).

The Tips fall to 23-15-1-1 (48 points).

Wolf saved 22 of the 26 shots he saw. He yielded for backup Danton Belluk following the media timeout in the third period. Belluk saved two of the three shots he faced.

Victoria took a seemingly innocuous 1-0 lead when it broke the scoreless deadlock late in the second period.

Buziak’s wraparound attempt deflected off Everett defenseman Kyle Walker and past Wolf’s glove at 16:05 for the 1-0 lead Royals lead.

It was Buziak’s fourth goal of the season and his first since he was acquired from the Regina Pats.

But the Royals quickly sped away from the Tips in the third.

Jeff De Wit beat Wolf in transition 17 seconds into the third for a 2-0 lead. Then Phillips found Hannoun wide-open at the left post for the 3-0 advantage at 7:51.

Phillips scored his team-best 29th goal at 9:37, and Andrei Grishakov completed the scoring with a goal at 17:40.

The teams played a scoreless first period in which Everett outshot the Royals 12-7.

Everett held a 36-29 shot advantage in the defeat. The Tips were 0-for-3 on the power play while Victoria was 0-for-2.

The Tips were without center Riley Sutter who was out with an undisclosed injury.

Everett has a quick turnaround as the Tips play host to Portland Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Victoria returns to Angel of the Winds Arena Sunday at 4:05 p.m.
