Snohomish’s Perry to join wrestling Hall of Fame

Former Snohomish High School head wrestling coach Mark Perry is one of five coaches who will be inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame this month.

Perry, Scott Jones (Lakeside High of Nine Mile Falls 1990-2007), David Mitchell (Tonasket High 1978-2010), Stan Opp (Wenatchee High 1983-2004) and Lee Reichert (Enumclaw High 1995-2010) will be honored on Oct. 30 at the Coast Wenatchee Center Hotel in Wenatchee. The 2010 inductees will bring the WSWCA’s Hall of Fame membership total to 111 members.

Also, longtime wrestling announcer Al Rasmussen of Seattle, a Lynnwood High alum, will be honored with the Joe Babbitt Contributors Award.

Currently Snohomish High’s head football coach and in-building athletic director in addition to his duties as a teacher, Perry was the Panthers head wrestling coach from 1987-1993 and 1996-2002. Perry’s other high school head coaching stint was at East Valley of Spokane (1994-1995). He has been Centennial Middle School’s wrestling coach since 2002.

Altogether, Perry has coached wrestling for 27 years. In 14 years as a head coach he guided teams to five league championships, four regional championships and five top-10 state finishes. In 2001 he was named Class 4A Coach of the Year.

Jones, one of the other ’10 WSWCA honorees, also coached at Snohomish (1987-88) and Marysville-Pilchuck (1988-89).

Tickets for the Hall of Fame ceremony cost $23. For more details contact Jim Meyerhoff at meyerhja@puyallup.k12.wa.us.
