Class 4A boys

When: Prelims: 2:30 p.m., Friday. Finals: 2:30 p.m., Saturday

Where: King County Aquatics Center

Storyline

Two of the favorites for the team title, Jackson and Kamiak, have had quite the rivalry this season. Jackson ended Kamiak’s streak of 103 straight dual meet wins — that dated back nearly seven years — on Jan. 22 with a 100-70 win.

The victory announced the Timberwolves as a title contender. But the Knights got their share of revenge at the 4A District 1 meet this past weekend. Kamiak won the district championship, finishing with 619 points, 67 points ahead of Jackson (549).

Kamiak had winners in five individual events and two relay events to help hold off the Timberwolves. Henry Limm and Shelby Lee each won two individual events for Kamiak.

In the Timberwolves victory over the Knights earlier in the season, they won five of the eight individual events and their depth earned high praise from Kamiak head coach Chris Erickson.

That depth could be a key for the Timberwolves this weekend as they look to win both the girls and the boys team titles in the same school year. Kamiak might have something to say about that after their district meet victory.

Class 3A boys

When: Prelims: 9:45 a.m., Friday. Finals: 10 a.m., Saturday.

Where: King County Aquatics Center

Storyline

Wesco 3A teams seek to reclaim a podium spot this season after no swimmers from Snohomish County won an individual title at the 2014 state meet (Shorecrest senior Aaron Moss won the diving championship).

Both Shorecrest and Meadowdale had swimmers finish in the top five, but that was as good as it got for the local teams.

This year, Wesco teams want to change that and Glacier Peak senior Camden Wunderlich might be the league’s best chance.

Wunderlich qualified with the second-fastest time of 1 minute, 56.87 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley and the top qualifying time (4:42.54) in the 500 freestyle.

Nicholas Lavigne, Wunderlich’s Glacier Peak teammate, also is in a strong position in the 100 butterfly with the fourth-best time of 52.71.

Class 2A boys

When: Prelims: 6:15 p.m., Friday. Finals: 6:30 p.m., Saturday

Where: King County Aquatics Center

Storyline

Archbishop Murphy comes into this weekend’s state meet aiming for its third consecutive state title.

But the Wildcats will have several challengers looking to prevent them from once again bringing the top trophy home.

One of those challengers is new to the 2A classification, Wesco’s Shorecrest. The Scots moved down from 3A to 2A prior to the start of this school year, but elected to stay in Wesco where they compete against all 3A schools.

The Wildcats and the Scots have a bit of history this season. The two teams met on January 13 with Shorecrest knocking off the defending state champs 100-70. The Wildcats won four of the eight individual events and two of the three relay events, but the Scots’ depth helped them pull of the win. Both teams are hoping to be in the running for a team title on Saturday.
