Timeout with … Renee vonPressentin, Cascade girls basketball

So, how’s life?

Life is so good. As a senior in basketball I’m really excited to see how our season goes and I have high hopes. Last year didn’t go so well, so we all are hoping for a better year this year. We’re coming together as a family a lot better this year and that makes basketball more fun.

How’s senior year going?

Senior year’s good. School is busy, but you gotta stay on top of all the school work to be able to play out on the court.

Do you have any plans for life after high school?

I do. I am going to go to Everett Community College, because I’m doing Running Start there, and I’m going to go to nursing school. I’ve thought about playing college basketball but I don’t know. Probably just gonna go to community college.

That was my next question, do you want to play basketball in the future?

A I’ve thought about it. I would love to but — I might play like some rec, or play some pickup games at the gym. Basketball will always be important to me.

What’s the best part about playing basketball?

Umm … I just find it so much fun. Winning games is the best; learning new things in order to win. The girls that I get to play with are great. We are like a family, all good friends, and the best thing is probably coming out with a win after you know you’ve worked really hard.

What’s the worst part? Or the part you like the least?

My least favorite part? Hmmmm. Probably all the conditioning. But it’s definitely worth it.

What are your hopes and dreams for the season?

Just that we can come together as one and play together as a team instead of relying just on one person. That we can all work together.

What’s your pregame ritual?

We have a very nice pregame ritual. We all meet in what we call the “War Room” and we come together as a team and talk about our plan for the game and for our opponents. And we have a warm-up and we listen to music. Then at the very end our signature is we all come together and we pray, as a team, and that’s a big thing for us. And then start the game.

Do you, or does the team, have a get-pumped song?

What is the song called? Uh … it is called … oh my gosh I know this. I made the CD. Uh … I think it’s called … I cannot recall it off the tip of my tongue.

No worries. Who’s your favorite musical artist?

Probably Drake, the rapper.

Do you like his new CD?

Oh my gosh “Take Care” is amazing! It’s always playing in the car.

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?

Actually I’ve gotten everything done. Shopped for my parents and all my friends.

Wow. What’s at the top of your Christmas list?

I’ve really been wanting a new camera. I got into photography last year. I took a photography class at the college, and I want one of those really nice Nikon with the little zoom thing.

What’s your favorite part about the Holiday season?

Probably family. Family’s a big thing for me. I don’t have any siblings, but I have a really close relationship with both my mom and my dad, and it’s just a time for all of us to really be together.

Are you excited for high school graduation?

Oh yeah! It’s definitely been long-awaited for. It’ll be good. It’s a big accomplishment and I’ve worked hard to get here.

What’s your favorite class in high school?

Probably English. I love writing and it’s always been my strong subject.

What about your least favorite?

Math. Math sucks.

Is the “V” in your last name capitalized?

No it’s not. It’s all one word, my last name, but the “v” is lowercase and the “p” is uppercase. It’s German.

Does that throw a lot of people off?

Yeah.

I think we’ve spelt it wrong so I’ll make sure we fix it.

It’s OK.

Anything else you want to add about your life?

Just that I’m excited for what is ahead of me. And that I have high hopes for the future.
