SEATTLE — University of Washington men’s basketball coach Lorenzo Romar said Tuesday that senior point guard Venoy Overton is almost ready to resume practicing.
Overton has been out with a hamstring injury and won’t play in the team’s exhibition against St. Martin’s on Saturday night. Romar said Overton probably will return to practice Monday and “absolutely” will challenge for a starting job.
“Venoy Overton doesn’t have to prove anything to me,” Romar said of the Huskies’ sixth man last season.
Sophomore Abdul Gaddy will start at point guard Saturday. Also in the starting lineup will be guard Isaiah Thomas, wing Justin Holiday and post Matthew Bryan-Amaning. As of Tuesday, Romar had yet to decide on the fifth starter for the St. Martin’s game.
