STANWOOD — More than 40 firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze that destroyed a home early Sunday.
Fire crews rushed to the 30300 block of Pioneer Highway NW about 5:30 a.m., North County Fire and EMS Battalion Chief Christian Davis said. They found heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the home.
The smoke awakened one of the occupants, who called 911, Davis said.
Firefighters fought the blaze from the outside, working to protect other buildings. They remained on scene for more than six hours.
Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office investigators believe the fire started near a wood stove. Damage was estimated at almost $200,000.
Snohomish County Red Cross volunteers were assisting the home’s residents.
