EVERETT — A judge on Friday sentenced a Lynnwood man to six years in prison for the assault of a 7-year-old girl last year.
A jury earlier this month convicted the man of second-degree assault of a child. Jurors also concluded that the assault was aggravated because it happened in front of another child. That opened the door for a lengthier prison sentence.
Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Richard Okrent agreed to a high-end sentence.
The Herald is not naming the defendant to protect the identity of the victim, his stepdaughter.
Prosecutors alleged that the man, 29, assaulted the girl with a plastic hairbrush and caused injuries to the child’s genitals.
The man told investigators he was mad, but said he hadn’t intended to hurt the girl.
Okrent ordered the man to be evaluated for an anger management problem. He also was ordered to stay away from minors unless he gets permission for the state Department of Corrections.
Okrent set bail at $300,000. That allows the man to potentially be freed, pending an appeal of his conviction.
