Could Dawson Leedahl be back sooner rather than later?

The Silvertips suffered a significant blow when winger Dawson Leedahl suffered knee ligament damage during Everett’s 3-2 overtime victory at Spokane on Oct. 18. After his MRI, it was thought he would likely need surgery and be out four-to-six months.

However, Leedahl and the Tips may have dodged a bullet. Leedahl received a second opinion on his MRI, and it was determined he wouldn’t need surgery after all, meaning his timeline for return could be significantly reduced.

Leedahl is currently resting up at home in Saskatoon. He’s expected to return to Everett next week to have the knee re-evaluated. If things are on track, the Tips are hopeful Leedahl could be back sometime in December — though the Tips will not rush him back as they take every precaution.

In other notes:

– Everett’s Russian duo of Nikita Scherbak and Ivan Nikolishin are scheduled back in Everett on Wednesday night after taking part in the Super Series games Monday in Saskatoon and Tuesday in Brandon. Scherbak played in both games and although he didn’t record any points, he did score during an 11-round shootout (see above video) as Russia wound up winning the game 3-2. Nikolishin played in the first game and also did not record a point. The Russians won both games against the WHL, so they return victorious.

– The Tips were severely short-handed for practice Wednesday because of players away, injured or sick. Therefore, two members of the Junior Silvertips team, forwards Sean Mallonee and Brendan Studioso, helped make up the numbers. Those two just came off winning the Abbotsford Midget Memorial Tournament on Monday, so it’s been quite the week for them.
