EVERETT — The USS Rodney M. Davis, the last frigate stationed at Naval Station Everett and one of the last frigates in the U.S. Navy, was towed Wednesday to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.
The decommissioned warship will eventually be sold to a foreign navy.
The Navy plans to replace aging frigates with smaller, more maneuverable ships called littoral combat ships. No plans have been announced for new ships to be stationed in Everett.
The Rodney M. Davis returned from deployment in December 2014 and was decommissioned in a ceremony Jan. 23. Its crew of 200 sailors have been reassigned.
One of the crew, Petty Officer Second Class Benny Winslow, made a full-length movie documenting the ship’s final tour, which he posted on his YouTube page.
