SEATTLE — King County Metro Transit got rid of its automated safety messages because they annoyed too many bus passengers.
The Seattle Times reported that the agency apologized to its 400,000 customers in a blog post online and stated that the automated messages were to be removed by Monday.
More than 100 passengers had turned to social media and others went to bus drivers to share their grievances about the service.
The automated voice told riders in English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese to follow safety precautions for riding the bus.
Passengers became annoyed at hearing the warnings each time the bus departed a stop on weekends.
The public-service announcements were suggested as a way to reduce injuries when a bus suddenly halts or accelerates.
Metro is considering a less noisy alternative.
