As of Monday evening, officials believed the Jumbo fire that has been burning near Darrington is out. The fire had been burning for more than a week, sending lots of smoke into surrounding areas.
Monday was too cloudy to send a plane over the area to do a thorough check, according to a Facebook post by the Robe Valley fire district. A flyover is planned later this week, weather permitting. The U.S. Forest Service has been monitoring the fire. The location was too remote and steep for traditional firefighting efforts.
