SPOKANE — Charges have been dropped because of insufficient evidence against two men accused of assaulting a transgender woman earlier this year in Spokane.
Adam R. Flippen and Marc A. Fessler were initially charged with assault and malicious harassment after an altercation with Jacina Scamahorn in early February.
Malicious harassment is Washington’s version of a hate crime.
Prosecutor Eugene Cruz last week filed an order to drop all charges against both men.
The Spokesman-Review reports the order says there is “insufficient evidence” to proceed, but doesn’t elaborate.
Scamahorn suffered broken bones in her face in the assault.
The incident drew widespread attention from civil rights groups in Spokane.
