BOTHELL — Firefighters on Monday declared victory in their lengthy battle with a stubborn fire in a pile of mulch.
The fire started Oct. 10 in a pile of mulch and debris at Fruhling Sand and Topsoil in the 1000 block of 228th Street SW. Smoke and ash from the fire temporarily forced closure of the road.
Bothell firefighters spent six days working to extinguish the flames.
“The pile was complex to combat, due to its size and temperature. Last Friday, firefighters were able to start separating the burning materials to cool and extinguish the debris,” Kirsten Clemens, a fire department spokeswoman, said in a press release.
Crews remained on scene through the weekend to make sure their efforts were successful.
