BINGEN — The chief executive of a Bingen-based company that makes unmanned surveillance aircraft says he hopes to choose a location for a new campus by year’s end.
Last week, Insitu Inc. won a $43.7 million contract to build the military’s next generation of remote-controlled spy craft.
Chief Executive Steve Sliwa said Monday that the company has received responses from 27 Columbia River Gorge communities interested in being home to its new campus, and that nine or 10 would be suitable candidates.
Insitu says it wants to consolidate some of its 23 facilities in the gorge to be more efficient.
Insitu’s gorge facilities on both the Washington and Oregon sides of the river employ about 500 people.
The company also plans to keep a facility in Vancouver, Wash., that employs about 80 people.
