Infiniti’s QX80 full-size luxury SUV is fully remodeled for 2025, sporting new styling inside and out, a new powertrain, advanced technology, and an increase in creature comforts.
The 2025 QX80’s dramatic face displays the latest iteration of the brand’s double-arch grille, “inspired by the organic shapes of a bamboo forest,” its designers say. Multi-element LED daytime running lights flank the upper grille, reinforcing the bamboo forest concept. The cool-looking illuminated Infiniti logo takes on a more three-dimensional look.
To help create a smooth uninterrupted profile and improved aerodynamics, QX80’s door handles are flush with the bodyside. When doors are unlocked, the handles pop out, providing a bit of entertainment along with the functionality.
QX80’s new engine is a 450-horsepower twin-turbo V6, replacing the previous V8 on all models. It’s hitched to a new nine-speed automatic transmission. The upgraded powertrain makes the QX80 livelier and more efficient, improving low-end acceleration by 27 percent, and highway fuel economy by 12 percent.
EPA fuel economy ratings for the 2025 QX80 with rear-wheel drive are 16 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined. With four-wheel drive, the numbers are 15/19/17 mpg.
There are four QX80 trim levels: Pure, Luxe, Sensory, and Autograph. The first two are available in rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive configuration, while the latter two come standard with four-wheel drive. Prices start at $82,450 plus destination charges for a rear-drive Pure, and ascend sure-footedly to top out at $109,900 plus destination charges for the model I drove, the Autograph.
The Infiniti QX80 is truck-based, having body-on-frame construction. Though the cabin is quiet and the seats are comfy as can be, a truck-like demeanor infiltrates at times, notably on roughed-up pavement. There’s a stretch of Highway 2 between Index and Skykomish that fits the description. I drove it at the posted speed limit, 60 mph. Hoo boy, what a bumpy ride. I had fun thinking about how much a little kid would love a ride like that.
Speaking of kids, second-row seats in the QX80 Autograph are heated, ventilated and massaging. The rear seat adjustments and climate options are controlled by an intuitive touchscreen integrated into the rear of the SUV’s center console, to be used by second-row passengers.
The rear seat area has biometric cooling technology that uses infrared sensors to detect body temperatures of second-row passengers and automatically adjust cooling if a passenger is getting hot. This would be a great benefit for infirm passengers as well.
A center console cooling box is standard on the Autograph exclusively. Another benefit for all ages.
Yet another enticement of the Autograph (and Sensory) QX80 is a standard 24-speaker Klipsch Reference Premiere stereo system including a 14-channel amplifier, High Line speakers, subwoofer, Individual Audio, and DJX 3D Surround.
Pure and Luxe drivers and passengers will have to cope with a meager 14 speakers.
