Caspar Babypants kicks off Marysville family concert series

The family-friendly shows — at just $6 each — are Jan. 27, Feb. 24 and March 24 at the opera house.

A series of three family concerts kicks off Jan. 27 in Marysville with the ever-popular Caspar Babypants aka Chris Ballew, lead singer of The Presidents of the United States of America.

Ballew as Caspar Babypants has drawn an ever-widening circle of fans, with his songs, videos and books for children.

“We had Caspar last year, and it sold out right away,” said Lauren Woodmansee, a spokeswoman for the Marysville Opera House. “We’re super excited to have him back at the Opera House. He’s very high energy, very engaging with the children.”

Families interested in going should consider buying their tickets in advance. “Last year, we turned people away,” Woodmansee said.

It’s part of a new family series of concerts at the Marysville Opera House, geared toward both children and adults.

The opera house wants its arts programs to be multicultural, multi-generational and affordable, Woodmansee said.

With a goal of expanding family and youth programming, “I thought let’s do a series,” she said.

Having the concerts on a Sunday afternoon seemed like a natural fit. “Families can still have a leisurely morning or go to church and still come and enjoy an afternoon and be home in plenty of time to prepare for school and the work week,” she said.

Other performers in the monthly concerts are Alex Zerbe — the Zaniac on Feb. 24 and the Not-Its! On March 24.

Zerbe performed once before at the venue, just a month after its grand opening in March 2016.

“He is just a funny, funny guy with a super amount of energy,” Woodmansee said. His performances include juggling, dancing, beat boxing and silly magic tricks, she said.

The Not-Its! consider themselves a kiddie rock group, but at the same time provide an enjoyable experience for moms and dads, she said.

“High energy doesn’t even explain how much they get going,” Woodmansee said.
