“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”: This is a childhood favorite fantasy based on C.S. Lewis’ story of four siblings who venture into the secret land of Narnia through a mysterious wardrobe.

It’s Village Theatre Pied Piper’s final show of the 2008-09 season.

This production comes packed with lessons these unlikely heroes learn as they grow with the help of the powerful lion, Aslan, and comes with music and lyrics described by The New York Times as “humorous and haunting.”

This 60-minute musical is recommended for age 6 and up.

The curtain on “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” goes up at 2 p.m. Sunday at Everett Civic Auditorium, 2415 Colby Ave., Everett. Tickets are $12 to $14. Call 425-257-8600 or go to www.villagetheatre.org.

One hour before curtain, youngsters are invited to participate in arts and crafts with representatives from Imagine Children’s Museum.

“Hansel &Gretel”: Here’s a new twist on a timeless tale about a hungry witch who will have the kids clapping their hands and dancing in their seats to a suite of bouncy tunes.

This StoryBook Theater production follows two siblings who bicker and squabble and get themselves in trouble when they decide to explore the woods without their parents’ permission.

While traipsing through the trees, they run into a sweetie of a Top Chef who delights and dabbles in the art of confection. This silly, starving and a bit crazy kitchen witch wants to create a new dish. She tries to turn Hansel into her next meal, only to find that some things are best left uneaten.

StoryBook Theater is known for musical fairy tale adaptations with adult performers that are geared for audiences ages 3 to 10.

“Hansel &Gretel” plays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Snohomish County Public Utility District Auditorium, 2320 California St., Everett. The play lasts 55 minutes.

Tickets are $9. Call StoryBook Theater’s ticket and information line at 877-827-1100 or Brown Paper Tickets at 800-838-3006 or go online to www.brownpapertickets.com. Tickets are also available at the door.
