Float away: Every winter the Skagit River is home to the largest concentration of wintering bald eagles in the lower 48 states.
One of the best ways to see the stately birds is by taking an eight-mile rafting and eagle-watching trip presented by the Adopt-A-Stream Foundation and Snohomish County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 3.
David Button of Pacific NW Float Trips and his team of naturalists are adept at spotting wildlife and will share information about eagles and the history and ecology of the river in this class for age 6 and older. Travelers can expect to see 20 to 200 eagles in their natural habitat. No experience is necessary.
Tickets, available by calling 425-316-8592, are $60 per person. See www.streamkeeper.org for more information.
